As a young girl in a village in Kenya, Beryl Magoko believed that all women in the world had to undergo female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) during their childhood. It was only as an adult that she realized this was not true and learned about new surgical methods that promise to reconstruct mutilated genital organs. This examination of her own history gave rise to the documentary film “In Search…” . In it, Beryl documented her own decision-making process about whether or not to undergo such an operation and spoke with other affected women and doctors.

In February 2026, the film “In Search…” was shown at the Lichtblick cinema in Mörfelden-Walldorf. On February 5, pro familia Rüsselsheim presented the film as part of the nasra project on the occasion of The International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (February 6). After the screening, there was an opportunity to talk to Beryl Magoko and representatives of pro familia and ask questions.
